BOL's official stance against Sedevacantism

Postby Draper » Sun May 20, 2007 1:00 pm

Over the last 6 months, the number of topics in the Catholicism forum dealing with sedevacantism (the belief that Benedict XVI is not the true pope, that the Chair of St. Peter is in fact empty) has increased significantly. The fear has arisen that current members and prospective members might arrive at the wrong idea about BoredOnline's official position, and so we have put forth a new policy and clarification.

BoredOnline officially recognizes Pope Benedict XVI as the vicar of Christ on earth, successor of St. Peter the Apostle. BOL also officially accepts all of the teachings of the Church's Magisterium.

That being said, discussion of sedevacantism is hereby banned from the Catholicism forum and from other forums on BOL with the exception of the Apologetics forum, newly resurrected for this purpose. It is not or intent to cease the discussion that has been occuring, but only to clarify the official stance of BOL in favor of Pope Benedict.

Thank you, Draper.
To die, to sleep;
To sleep: perchance to dream: ay, there's the rub;
For in that sleep of death what dreams may come
When we have shuffled off this mortal coil,
Must give us pause: there's the respect
That makes calamity of so long life;
For who would bear the whips and scorns of time,
The oppressor's wrong, the proud man's contumely,
The pangs of despised love, the law's delay,
The insolence of office and the spurns
That patient merit of the unworthy takes,
When he himself might his quietus make
With a bare bodkin?

I think it's sad that this even had to be made, but thank you.

If I wasn't a long time member, and I looked at the forum, and I saw that forum, it would lead me to believe that BOL supported sede's. But oh well. I guess it can't be helped.

I think what she is saying that if she had just joined BOL, and saw all the people debating FOR sedevacantism in the Catholicism forum, then she would probably believe that BOL was made up of/supported sedevacantism. Which is most likely what I would have thought, too. Sad it has be done, but its a good thing for BOL to take an official stance on it.

"Uniting Catholic Homeschoolers Worldwide"

no where does it list a specific kind of Catholic.

it does not say

"Uniting Traditional Catholic Homeschoolers Worldwide"

nor does it say

"Uniting Novus Ordo Catholic Homeschoolers Worldwide"

There are no "types" of Catholics. Either you are, or you're not. "Traditional" and "Novus Ordo" aren't religions.

you either are or you aren't. But then which would be a Catholic? Novus Ordo or Traditional Catholics? If your response is 'They both are' then why is there a bias against traditionals?

Asher, personally I would have thought that, considering your rather extensive familiarity with the site that you would know that the administration "recognizes Pope Benedict XVI as the vicar of Christ on earth, successor of St. Peter the Apostle." Perhaps I am mistaken.

No one's controlling you, or telling you that you have to believe something else. The whole point of this is that BOL's official stance on sedevacantism has been made.

telling me that if I talk about my faith I could potentially be banned, is in a way "trying" to control my beliefs.

my bad... multiple things in my mind :P but still, I would rather be banned than be forbidden to stand up for what I believe in.

You all say that this is "BOL's stance," Well aren't Asher and I, or any other sede on the site, part of BOL too? Even if that's not our stance? I agree with Asher...I'd rather be banned than have to pretend that I go along with your beliefs.
