Rules, Regulations, and Assorted Information
.:: to be followed in the BoredOnline.net Forums and Chatroom

1. Anything that is Anti-Catholic in nature will not be tolerated.

A charitable debate may, at the complete discretion of BoredOnline's moderators, supersede this rule. However, it is important to remember that this is a Catholic Homeschooling Community. Any mockery of, insults toward, or intolerance to any topic pertaining to God, Christianity, the pope, the Church, etc. will not be tolerated. This site is officially professes its submission the Magisterium of the Catholic Church and recognizes Benedict XVI as the one, true, and legitimate pope. In addition, while this site is still open to non-Catholic members, members are expected to be respectful of the Catholic faith. At the same time, uncharitable derision of those of other faiths will not be tolerated.

2. Profanity is not tolerated.
No swear words, curse words, or foul language is permitted on this website. Similarly, if the offender tries to circumvent the foul language filter, punishment will be leveled as this can only be seen as an action done in a will and desire to break the rules.

3. BoredOnline members are expected to act in a Christian and moral manner.
This includes, but is not limited to, "adult or mature" discussion material, off-color jokes, improper images, disgusting or otherwise offensive posts.

Please remember that this is a public, mixed forum and try to keep the conversations modest and appropriate for all.

4. Maintain a spirit of charity.
Always be polite and respectful towards your fellow members! If someone posts a flame or deliberately spiteful message about other BoredOnline member, the offending user will be warned and notified. If the behaviour is continued, appropriate measures will be taken.

5. Private messages are rightly called "private".
Please refrain from posting any private message on BoredOnline without prior approval from the sender of the message.

6. BoredOnline is a community designed for use by HomeSchooling Youth or HomeSchooling Graduates.
This site has been built for HomeSchooling youth who wish to communicate with each other online. While the administration allows exceptions to the rule (friends of other homeschoolers, private & public schooled students who share similar interests, etc), the administration reserves the right to suspend the accounts, at any time, of those who are not homeschoolers and who share a blantantly different moral and ethical foundation.

7. BoredOnline Cannot be Held Responsible for Content Outside of the Site.
Though we do monitor and try to ensure the acceptability of all content posted on this site, we cannot vouch for external sites linked to from user profiles, signatures, etc.

8. The minimum age for members is 12 years of age. However, even at that age, it is not necessarily recommened. This rule, however, will not be retroactive. Any member who has registered before October 19th, 2006 is not subject to this rule. Parents should ensure the site is suitable for their children.

9. Making posts in "secret codes" will not be tolerated.

umm..where are the spam rules? You closed the "hallway" thing..it wasnt spam, if you had taken the time to read it... we were just having fun. Spam are posts saying "yes." "no." "well, where did you go? post here when youre back" and stuff.

they've never had a definition of spam.

I remember posting a definition on a couple of occasions, but it is true that the policy has never been as well defined as would be desired. I will be working on it for a new rule.

The paragraph given which includes things such as mockery, insults, etc is the best I can do for now (though I didn't write it). It is the kind of thing that often has to be assessed on an individual basis.

A definition of spam would be very nice. 'The Hallway' was just a game...we're allowed to have trivia and who wants to be a millionaire and word associations...why not the hallway? or the porch? just another game.

I was thinking that too. It's just being to subjected to the staff's personal opinions.

I put up the Holy Grail as an alternative that is ok. The problem with the Hallway wasn't that it was a running story (which it arguably wasn't), but that many if not most of the posts didn't even communicate a coherent thought.

*blows up bug with grenade*

Is Spam, but if you want to actually write a fictional story, that is great. Such things have been going on in the Writing forum for sometime. If you want it to involve everyone, great, but lets try a little more than half a sentence. There is also a stupidity factor that we should try to avoid.

But if you have read the posts before that one which you quoted, it makes perfect sense, is coherent.

That helps alot, considering I never saw that.

But the matter has been clarified to me by another source, which brought to light my folly in asking the question in the first place, since I essentially already knew the answer.

And Draper, spam by any other name will smell just as spammish. Not that I really care.

Katholish,

The staff has been so inconsistant in dealing with spam ever since Spam City was closed. Double posts are most definately a form of spamming for post count, especially when there is an edit option. But I see in this thread you have done it.

Double-posting is usually an accident and the extra post is deleted by the first moderator to notice it.

He means when you realize after you post that there is more that you want to say on the subject and hence make a another post with the new content instead of editing the previous post.

I do that particular in apologetics debates on other sites when each post is some seven paragraphs long and in response to different people, but also if you add something to a previous post, it does not appear as new content, and someone might just assume that they had already read it and miss what you have to say. In this instance, the moderators must try to determine intent in creating a second post.

Does that include the word "crud". This particular word seems vulger at first glance, but after looking into its history one finds that it is the last NAME of the man who invented the modern toilet.

I believe that he was asking about the word that "crud" is a substitute for, and that is what my answer was directed at. I am familiar with the history of the term, so I am fairly certain of his meaning.
